Dr. Maureen Horgan, Associate Professor of Music in Low Brass

More than thirty years experience as a professional musician and teacher, performing with and for such diverse musicians as Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, YoYo Ma, Frederick Fennell, Frank Battisti, Victor Borge, Henri Mancini, Jacki Byard, the Irish Tenors, and Brian Wilson (the Beach Boys). Performances at Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and solo recitals at Jordan Hall.

Performed as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan (Boston) Wind Ensemble, and as a guest artist at Yale University, Williams College and the University of New Mexico. Solo appearances at the International Trombone Festival, Eastern Trombone Workshop, and International Women’s Brass Conference. Recorded on Gunmar, Ladyslipper, and CRI Labels, among others. Ensemble credits include the Opera Company of Boston, the Honolulu Symphony, and the Boston Philharmonic. Currently playing trombone with Monarch Brass, and with the New Hampshire Music Festival in the summer months.

Teaching experience includes public school band and orchestra in Massachusetts and Hawaii, twenty years as Instructor of Trombone and Brass Chamber Music at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Head Brass Coach of the Greater Boston Youth Symphonies, and adjunct courses at Wheelock College, Northeastern University, and SUNY Stony Brook. Taught one year as a Lecturer at Plymouth State University (NH) prior to taking up the appointment at Georgia College and State University.

Served as Chair of the Pedagogy Committee for the International Trombone Association, on the Board of the Alumni Association of the New England Conservatory, and currently on the Board of the International Women's Brass Conference.
